Dehradun (Mohan Bhulani) – In a major push towards positioning Uttarakhand as the world’s spiritual and wellness capital, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to expedite the creation of one Spiritual Economic Zone each in the state’s Garhwal and Kumaon divisions.
During a high-level review meeting, CM Dhami emphasized preparing a detailed roadmap immediately and initiating on-ground work within the current financial year. “This initiative will be a game-changer in establishing Uttarakhand as a global hub for spirituality, culture, and tourism,” he stated.
The zones will focus on holistic development of pilgrimage sites and surrounding areas, conserving religious, cultural, and natural heritage while promoting yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, naturopathy, local handicrafts, mountain products, and cultural events. The move is expected to generate new employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth, curb migration from hills, and inject fresh momentum into the state’s economy.
CM Dhami further stressed enriching Uttarakhand’s tourism landscape and strengthening its identity as India’s ‘Spiritual Capital’. He instructed authorities to ensure time-bound implementation with rigorous monitoring at every stage.
Additionally, the Chief Minister reviewed winter tourism arrangements, directing enhancements in infrastructure, accommodation, transport, and security at winter destinations to attract more visitors to experience the state’s natural and cultural diversity. He called for aggressive promotion through traditional and modern media to showcase Uttarakhand’s tourism potential globally.
The vision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of sustainable development, blending preservation of heritage with economic growth and improved living standards for residents.
