Dehradun: With continuous rainfall and intensifying cold gripping the capital city, District Magistrate Savin Bansal conducted a late-night surprise inspection of major intersections and roundabouts to check bonfire (alaw) arrangements. During the visit, he personally inquired about the well-being of homeless and needy individuals staying in rain baseras (night shelters) and issued necessary directions to the Municipal Corporation and Tehsil administration.
In the evening hours, DM Savin Bansal reached key chowks and chaurahas across the city to review the bonfire setup aimed at providing warmth to people on the streets during the severe chill and wet weather. He interacted directly with residents of the rain baseras, listened to their concerns, and assessed their immediate needs, including blankets, food, and other basic amenities.
The DM emphasized that no needy person should suffer discomfort in the winter season. He gave strict instructions to officials from the Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) and Tehsil administration to ensure:
- Proper and continuous bonfire arrangements at all major intersections and roundabouts, with daily updates on their status.
- Adequate provisions in rain baseras, including sufficient blankets, meals, drinking water, lighting, bedding, toilets, and other essential facilities.
- Regular monitoring of night shelters, with immediate additional arrangements made if required, to prevent anyone from being affected by the cold.
DM Savin Bansal stated, “The district administration is making continuous efforts to assist the helpless, destitute, and homeless. During this period of cold and rain, we are ensuring that people in rain baseras receive all necessary facilities, and bonfire setups are providing relief to those on the streets. Our priority is that no individual faces hardship due to the weather.”

This proactive night inspection highlights the administration’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the cold wave and rainfall on vulnerable sections of society. Such field visits not only improve on-ground arrangements but also strengthen public trust in the administration.
Officers present during the inspection included Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Harigiri and District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Rishabh Kumar, along with other concerned officials.
DM Savin Bansal, posted as Dehradun District Magistrate since September 2024, is known for his hands-on approach and frequent surprise checks on public welfare issues. His actions align with the Uttarakhand government’s policy of ensuring no one is left behind during harsh winters, including special relief camps and bonfire provisions.
The administration has appealed to citizens: If anyone spots a person in distress due to cold or rain, kindly inform the local police station or the district control room immediately at helplines 1070 or 112.
