Champawat: In a significant boost to tourism development in the region, the Uttarakhand government has transferred 1.504 hectares of land to the Tourism Department for the expansion of the ambitious Goljyu Corridor Project. The land will be utilized to develop essential public amenities and tourism infrastructure while ensuring that no religious or historically important structures are affected.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar confirmed that the land transfer process has been completed. He stated that this step is being taken in line with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision of creating an “Adarsh Champawat” (Ideal Champawat). The development of the Goljyu Corridor is a key component of this vision, aimed at enhancing tourism facilities and strengthening the district’s cultural identity.
The land, located in Village Champawat under Champawat Tehsil, belongs to Khata No. 314, Basra No. 6721, and Khasra No. 6721. It was earlier recorded in the name of the High School Committee, Champawat, under Category 1(A) in revenue records. The land has now been transferred free of cost and mutated in favor of the Tourism Department, Government of Uttarakhand.
DM Manish Kumar directed all concerned officers to ensure that all works related to the project are completed in a time-bound and quality manner. He emphasized that the project should be executed with full sensitivity towards local heritage and environmental concerns.
The Goljyu Corridor Project is expected to play a transformative role in Champawat’s tourism landscape. Once developed, it will provide modern tourist facilities, better connectivity, and enhanced amenities for visitors. The project aims to highlight the rich cultural, religious, and historical heritage of the region, which is home to several ancient temples and sacred sites.
DM Manish Kumar said, “The Goljyu Corridor will not only strengthen the cultural and religious identity of the area but will also provide a major boost to the local economy. It will create new employment opportunities for local youth and promote homestays, local handicrafts, and traditional cuisine.”
The development of public utilities such as parking facilities, rest areas, tourist information centers, pathways, lighting, and sanitation facilities will be undertaken on the transferred land. Special care will be taken to preserve the natural beauty and ecological balance of the region while developing these facilities.
Champawat district, nestled in the Kumaon region, has immense tourism potential due to its rich historical legacy and spiritual importance. The Goljyu Corridor is seen as a flagship project that will put Champawat on the tourism map of Uttarakhand. Improved infrastructure is expected to increase tourist footfall, which will directly benefit local businesses, transporters, and hospitality service providers.
Officials believe that with better facilities and organized tourism development, the project will help reduce migration from the hills by creating sustainable livelihood options. The state government is focusing on integrated development of religious and adventure tourism circuits in the region.
The District Magistrate has asked officials to prepare a detailed action plan for the swift implementation of the project. Regular monitoring of the works will be conducted to ensure transparency and quality standards are maintained.
Local residents have welcomed the land transfer decision and expressed hope that the Goljyu Corridor Project will bring prosperity to the area. They have appealed to the administration to ensure that local people are given priority in employment and other benefits arising from the project.
